Our Nursery program is designed for children aged 3–4 years, a stage where curiosity blossoms, independence develops, and social connections begin to take shape. Through the Montessori method, children explore a carefully prepared environment that nurtures confidence, focus, and a love for discovery.
The Nursery program at Tara International School marks an important milestone in a child’s journey. At this stage, children are eager to explore their environment, test their abilities, and build relationships. Our Montessori classrooms are thoughtfully prepared to support this natural curiosity, offering freedom within structure.
Each child is encouraged to work at their own pace, making choices and learning through hands-on experiences. Teachers serve as gentle guides, observing and supporting rather than directing, so children gain confidence in their abilities.
The focus is on fostering independence—whether it’s pouring water, choosing activities, or expressing thoughts. This independence, combined with the development of social and language skills, lays the foundation for both academic readiness and emotional well-being.

Practical Life activities are at the heart of Montessori education. In the Nursery years, children learn to care for themselves and their environment through simple, purposeful tasks—pouring, buttoning, cleaning, and organizing. These activities build concentration, coordination, and independence.
As children gain confidence in performing daily routines, they develop responsibility and pride in their work. More than tasks, these lessons prepare them for real life, fostering habits of order, care, and mindfulness that will stay with them beyond the classroom.
Sensorial activities introduce children to shapes, colors, textures, sounds, and sizes, sharpening their ability to observe and classify the world around them. In the Nursery classroom, materials like color tablets, sound cylinders, and geometric solids invite exploration.
By refining their senses, children strengthen focus and lay the groundwork for future learning in mathematics, language, and science. These activities also nurture a love for beauty and precision in everyday life.
At the Nursery level, language development flourishes. Children are introduced to sounds, vocabulary, and storytelling through phonetic games, picture cards, and conversation. Rich spoken language experiences are central to our classrooms.
These early experiences prepare children for reading and writing, but more importantly, they nurture self-expression and confidence in communication—skills that will serve them for life.
Montessori math introduces abstract concepts through concrete materials. Bead chains, number rods, and spindles allow children to explore quantity, sequence, and patterns with their hands before learning symbols.
By making math a tactile, joyful experience, children gain not only early numeracy but also logical thinking and problem-solving skills—foundations for academic success.
We believe that children learn not only within walls but also under the open sky. Outdoor activities in our Himalayan setting include gardening, free play, and exploring the natural world.
This connection with nature helps children develop physical strength, creativity, and an appreciation for the environment, making learning joyful and holistic.
Cultural activities introduce children to geography, science, art, and traditions. In the Nursery classroom, children explore maps, nature, and seasonal changes to build awareness of the wider world.
These experiences cultivate respect for diversity and curiosity about life beyond their immediate environment, planting seeds of global citizenship from an early age.
